MEMBERS' NOTES (first is most recent) ADD NOTE     SORT BY: NAME / DATE
Hey everybody out there!this drug is really cool if used in a small dose for 1-2 days. I experimented on myself with this drug and used it in smaller doses of 10mg everyday for 11 days and found that it was good intially for 2-3 days. Later I could find the effect weared off and had a strange affect on my memory. The memory problem was irksome which interfered with my regular work, though not much but, causes a little bit of dizzyness.I'm a normal healthy guy without any anxiety problems. Thought I would try it out to know more, when I heard of this "Wonder drug". Though I do not recommend to play around with these kind of drugs, you can do a little bit of experimenting when u think your body can resist some intoxication. One tab of Inderal for an occasion and see how you will conquer the most trivial issues like it were a cake-walk for you.It is guaranteed! Forget this tab for some days and later use it when needed.Never use it daily when experimenting.IMPORTANT:Not for those who are under medical supervision or for those doctor has recommended.   (Fri Nov 4 11:15 2005)

I've been taking Inderal for 2 1/2 years for migraines and borderline high blood pressure. It definitely helped me with both. I was not even aware that Inderal could be used for anxiety. My doctor and I felt that it was time to withdraw from the drug due to some depressive symptoms.  From what I've seen the rapid heart beat seems to go along with missing a dose. I'm now down to 10 mg. every 36 hrs, but feel weak with a racing heart for the last 20 of those hrs. I hope this is not damaging to my heart. I'm kind of accepting it as something I have to endure if I want to get off Inderal.  While on Inderal I never noticed bad side effects, just some vivid dreams which I guess I kind of enjoyed. I had become sort of dysthymic and did not know the Inderal could be related to that either. I did not realize it could be so problematic in the long run.  Has anyone else had similar experiences?   (Sat Nov 5 21:24 2005)

Inderal by Michelle
I have been taking inderal for about one year they keep on increasing my dosage because the migraines seem to be getting worse. Yes it helps I believe, but now I feel like I am extremely tired all of the time and having dizzy spells on a regular basis. I have been told that I have anxiety too and that it is suppossed to help. Well I am not so sure what is helping anymore, I still get the migraines and take additional medications to try and help out. Everyone's body reacts in a different way to the medications.   (Tue Nov 8 19:58 2005)

I've already stoped taking it although I didn't take more than two 10mg pills! I'm convinced it's not right for me, But this may not be the right decision for everyone. YOU MAY NEED TO TAKE IT but if you are willing to stop it consult your doctor and read the pages I posted up there.

Good luck everyone, and hope this helps.   (Mon Nov 14 13:43 2005)

Search online for by Pills are not necessary....
If you get this book "from panic to power" you can overcome any kind of depression of anxiety problem, pills are not necessary there is an emotional cause to your problems and that is what needs to be fixed, if you depend on pills "quick fix" you will never be cured, you will be miserable forever, that's a fact, if you can live with that, then dont try to solve the ACTUAL problem, but take some pills to supress it.   (Mon Nov 28 3:05 2005)

Inderal 60mg. by bosco
I have been a migraine sufferer for 12 yrs.
Started taking inderal 60mg two weeks ago.
Great response no migraines at all but I do have insonmia some nights.  Began taking the inderal 60mg for the last few days in the AM only.  I hope this works for my sleeping because the "no migraine" is awsome!   (Tue Nov 29 12:50 2005)

Just surfed here and found this forum.  Inderal limits headaches but does nothing for migraine.  Migraine is a totally different physiological and mental condition to headache.  I've taken Inderal 80mg, 120mg. and even 160mg almost daily or every other day for nearly 3 years and found that while it limits headaches and controls anxiety, it does nothing at all to prevent migraines.  I take ZOMIG once in a while for a migraine attack (or a migraine "precurosr") and that is a world apart from Inderal.

I am cleaning up on Inderal now because I think it's messed up my sex life (!) even though my doctors tell me that it probably would not do that.  But they have conceded it inhibits the libido and physical performance.  I'd rather have a headache and suffer some periodic anxiety than lose my ability to make love with my wife!

Starting last week, I am migrating to herbal remedies, better diet, and some exercise.  It is starting to work already, albeit in a small way.  But I plan to build on it and kiss Inderal goodbye soon enough.     (Sun Dec 4 11:21 2005)

Inderal Withdraw by Dayna Leffler
I have been on Inderal 40mg. 4 times daily for 16 yrs. for cardiac arrythmia and high B/P. I recently had a heart cath and my Dr. stopped Inderal cold turkey and immediately started Betapace. I went into A-Fib and came close to dying. Please don't stop cold turkey or let anyone try to get you to. My arrythmia became severe in 24 hours. I had tremors so bad that I could not hold the steering wheel. Once you have been on Inderal for this many years, you will never be able to go off of it. It almost killed me.    (Sat Dec 10 23:33 2005)

I have been battling a fear of public speaking for many years. My job requires I give occassional presentations and to overcome my fear I became a lecture at my church.  My doctor prescribed inderal 20mg to stop my racing heart and it works wonders.  I have been on it now for 1.5 years but I only take it when I need it.  3 times a week in the morning. This past week I had to take it twice a day for two days to relax myself before  a big presentation and then I havent taken it for 4 days.  Is this considered cold turkey? Should I be concerned.  Any feedback would be appreciated.     (Tue Dec 13 9:37 2005)

I have been using Propanol for 2 years now occasionally before giving presentations.  It works wonders, but I am now Pregnant.  I only take it once or twice a month, so there isn't a concern for the baby - the problem is it seems to have stopped working.  COMPLETELY.  I have had embarrassing episodes and I am petrified to speak in front of a crowd now.  Any one know of any reason why this could be happening?  Is it because of increased blood and I should up my dose?     (Wed Dec 14 15:59 2005)

hi i have been on propranolol for 3 years because i could not breath and was getting my self worked up all the time... they helped me at first for the first year but found it hard to excercise i got exhausted easily..im now 10 weeks pregnant and i have stopped them altogether i feel fed up and even worse than ever i cant go shopping cause i go dizzy and start panicking for nothing i feel i cant cope i wish my doctor had never put me on them darn tablets... my opinion to anyone thinking of goin on these dont they only stop the fear while on them but then wen u want to come of them it just comes back and you rely on them im going to go yoga i will beet this just dont know when good luck every one xxxxxxxxxxxx   (Sat Dec 31 6:22 2005)

i started on inderal la 80mg one and a half years ago, i was tired and dizzy for the first month or so then it seemed to taper, or maybe i just got used to it.  I had severe migraines attacking me every 2-3 days.  while on inderal i would get them between 1-2 times a week.  so it seemed to help some then they would increase and get worse and the dr's would up my scrip to 120 then to 160.  i couldn't function on the 160's so they brought me back to the  120's which i was on for most of that time.  recently i was attacked with 6 migraines in 11 days.  that to me means that the drug isn't working, taking more amerge than inderal it seemed so i asked to get off. while on inderall i gained 40 pounds and am tired alot. i am now in withdrawal.  UGH - this is really hard.  my symptoms after day 3 being off...pounding, racing heart, increased pulse rate (highest resting is 135 so far, normally 60-65) fatigue, hazieness, dumbfounded feeling intestinal cramping(below belly button),nausea, loss of appetite/starvation feelings
low blood sugar, dizzy, I will get through this, just wanted you all to know about my experiences.  I thought that it did work for me some while on it, it took away my aura's if nothing else.  good luck.  however now i am trying a lifestyle change, more exercise, b2 and magnesium vitamin supplements and hope to be drug free for a long time!

Never again by Mike
My doctor put me on 60mg of Inderal for stress and tremors about a month ago.  The bottle says to take daily but nobody stressed the importance of taking it everyday and around the same time.  So I'm thinking it's an "as needed" drug, that if I take it then I will feel relaxed the entire day.  Unfortunately I did take it "as needed" and missed taking it on some occasions, mainly weekends.  Not a good idea.  Today for example, I was experiencing fast heart rate (110 bpm, and I work in an office setting), sweating, and the feeling that I could faint.  My heart was just pounding.  I explained this to a nurse that works here and she didn't know I was taking Inderal.  So she was going on about anxiety and stuff.  Then somewhere in there I told her that my doctor put me on Inderal.  She freaks out and tells me to immediately stop taking it.  I don't know exactly if this stuff works because I haven't been taking it as I should.  Even if I would have, I wouldn't want to go through weening myself off of it after long-term use.  Another point, I take Restoril to help me sleep but I've been waking up in the middle of the morning with my heart pounding and I can't get back to sleep.  It could be safe to assume that it's from the Inderal.  Could this be true?  Before, I was thinking the Restoril didn't work that well for me.  From what I've explained, is it a good idea to get off of Inderal?  If nothing else, I want people to think twice about ever getting on this drug.   (Fri Jan 20 17:47 2006)

Does Inderal help someone who has panic attacks in certain driving conditions? I've had two very scary panic attacks while in interstate traffic...would taking this drug before driving in these conditions help?    (Mon Jan 23 22:19 2006)

Jane, you should probably discuss Inderal LA (LA is part of the drug name) with your doctor.  It will help you.  Either you have panic attacks or not; they are not traffic-specific!  I mean, either you are prone to panic or not.  If so, Inderal LA will definitely help.  Hope this helps.   (Tue Jan 24 17:22 2006)

Finally!! by Sarah
Inderal has been a life saver for me.  I was suffering from bad anxiety of the actual anxiety symptoms.  Such a bad cycle! I would get normal nervous situation symptoms and those would freak me out and I would have a panic attack with terrible palpitations and rapid heartrate.  I only take 10mg per day in the morning and it has given me back my outgoing cheery adventurous personality. I have had no side effects.  My resting heartrate used to be 78-100 and it is now a nice calm 64-80. I think it has actually helped my memory because I am not so focused on my anxiety anymore. I see all these posts about people wanting to go off the drug, but if it is working for you why go off it? As long as this keeps working for me, I don't care if I have to be on it for my whole life!!   (Thu Feb 2 18:45 2006)

Inderal definitely calms many people.  I had gone through severe trauma in life and that had made me very emotional and angry may a times.  This drug has calmed me down a lot.

BUT PLEASE NEVER STOP TAKING INDERAL SUDDENLY IF YOU HAVE BEEN TAKING IT FOR A LONG TIME AND ALSO MORE THAN 40mg because this drug is cardioselective and stopping this suddenly could affect your cardiac rhyth.   (Fri Feb 17 20:46 2006)

Iwas diagnosed with Wolfe-Parkinsom-White syndrome in 1983 and was prescribed Propranolol 60mg twice a day. At first I had stomach problems and very vvivid dreams or rather nightmares. I eventually adjusted and took the drug for 23 years. This week I had a catheter ablation procedure which closed off the extra nerve pathway in my heart. For this procedure I had to stop taking the drug three days before. This made for a very nervous weekend. My heart wound race just walking up the stairs. I was used to going to the gym everyday and working out and my heartrate would only go up to about 125. Now , after the procedure, my heartrate is about 78 but if I do anything physical at all, it quickly speeds up to over 100 and I am quite shaky. My doctor says I'm cured of the WPW syndrome and I don't need the drug anymore. Does it take time to stop feeling the side effects of withdrawal from this drug I wonder?? Anybody else had the same experience??   (Thu Mar 23 8:23 2006)

inderol by mandy
started taking inderol a month ago for migrain prevention. Other than cold feet and at times leaving my muscles feeling as though we were working out big time, my migrains have ceased, I sleep strait through the night and amasingly, I am more focused. I have accomplished more the last 4 weeks then I have the last year. Did I mention I am adhd and have panic disorder. I also lost weight probably because I am more active; physically and emotionally.    (Sun Apr 2 19:49 2006)

ANXIETY by jade
Hi there I have anxiety but I do not take medication, the only thing i hate about my anxiety is i feel nautious, its hardcore too, it happens usually when i eat or get overexcited is there any drugs out there that just deal with this symptom, thats all i care about, i can handle the battle in my head its just the nausea panic attacks that kills me. PLEASE HELP!!! email me at jadecrimson5@yahoo.com w/ any information. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!   (Mon Apr 24 10:57 2006)

After doing research on the web for the past three weeks, I made the decision to try Propranolol to control the embarrassing anxiety during a presentation I had to give to a large audience this week. The results were outstanding, the shaking, shifting and fear were gone. The dosage the doctor recommended was 20 mg 30 minutes before my presentation. If you have this same problem, I recomend Propranolol.   (Sun Apr 30 10:12 2006)

This afternoon I took 40mg of Inderal to treat hand tremors and racing heart from performance anxiety. I have trialed it before in 20mg-30mg doses prior to the "big day" to make sure there were no side-effects. However this time I took 40mg just to be on the "safe side" when getting up on stage.

That night, I suddenly woke up with heart palpitations and was in sweat (probably because I had been wearing more clothes from the cold). I reckon it was about 6hrs since I'd taken the 40mg dose. Also I had very vivid nightmares, can never remember my dreams but I knew they were pretty frightening. Checked my pulse and it was at around 80bpm. I didn't know what was going on and was on the verge of calling an ambulance.

The palpitations lasted for about 45 minutes and subsided after that. I'm convinced that the palpitations, sweat and nightmares was due to the wearing-off of 40mg dose I took earlier (anything less and I never had problems). Would anyone comment on this?

Another question I have, is 40mg a bit extreme to treat performance anxiety symptoms? What milligram dosage have people successfully trialed for hand tremors due to performance anxiety (steady hands very important in what I do)?   (Tue May 2 10:46 2006)

I have been taking inderal for anxiety and man does it work. 200 mg 4 times a day, sometimes I just chew it like candy, I feel like walking on a cloud or something. Years ago I was hooked on xnanx and valiim with severe opiate withdrawal. I just popped 6 times the normal dose the doctor prescribed, which was 20 mg and things got better, take inderal for lifeeee! wooo hooo   (Sun May 7 5:25 2006)

Im generally on the buspar forum since thats what i take. but this inderal sounds very interesting. I have anxiety disorder and im taking 45 mg buspar a day and about 3/4 mg klonopin a day. without the klonopin, i think i'd be a wreck. I also have asthma, high blood pressure aand high collesterol. i take meds for all of it. im going to mention inderal to my doc and see what he has to saay. hugs

I just used inderal for multiple presentations in front of a crowd of approximately 200 people and it worked great! I will say it does nothing for the feeling leading up to the event but if taken 1 hour before hand it will kill all of the heart palpatations, shaky voice and all the other problems.  I was able to focus on the task at hand and deliver a great performance. My message was clear and everyone thought I did great.  It was a great release.  I took 4 20mg tablets before each presentation.  That is probalby too much but I wanted to be assured it would work. You will know if it working if you have a dry mouth and cold hands.  Other than that, I was a little light headed but felt great.  I was always in control and there are no other side affects other than you are bullet proof in front of a crowd. If you have sufferd as I with talking in front of groups, I recommend this product. I just scored a victory with my career.  The best part is you only have to take it when you need it.  God bless the people who came up with it    (Thu Jun 8 21:43 2006)

I was put on Inderal for a veso vegel, an adverse reflex that causes the heart rate to speed up and the blood pressure to drop, which ultimately caused me to faint. I have always been somewhat high strung, but i would get multiple fainting spells a several times a day, which I believe induced my anxiety. I was also under stress for several other factors. My doctor prescribed Inderal and I can honestly say that it allowed me to function with my life. I recently decided to get off it, because school ended and it made me very tired. I have been off it for about 3 weeks, and since then I have felt somewhat apathetic to life. I don't have much motivation to eat and I sleep a lot. I'm somewhat emotionless and haven't experienced excitement or anger for quite some time. This lifestyle of mine is making me depressed. I did stop Inderal cold turkey, but I'm very young and didn't experience the racing heart and palpitations. I had low blood pressure before I got on Inderal. I'm going to college in the fall, and I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me if they'd have any similiar emotional problems getting off Inderal. I do feel like I've overcome my fear of fainting and I don't really feel dependent on Inderal for anxiety. I'm just wondering if these symptoms are from being off Inderal and if so how long they will last. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.   (Wed Jun 14 5:31 2006)

Hello All,  Am new to this forum.
Have a question on usage of Inderal.  My doctor has prescribed Inderal for treating my anxiety, and it seems to work.  One thing though, immdeiately after taking it (40mg 2 times daily) I am getting very tired and dull in my head.  This seems to last for +/- 3 hours after taking it.
Is this normal?   Should I maybe take less?  Does it still have effect then?

All, Just came from my doctor.  He said that I have to stop Inderal for my anxiety immediately because Inderal has a bloodpressure lowering effect, and my bloodpressure had become too low: 95 over 60.   (Wed Jun 21 13:12 2006)

Inderal by Christina
Hi everyone,
I started having anxiety attacks in Mid May and thought I was actually suffering a heart attack or had lung problems because the chest pains and breathing was so bad, plus out of control shaking, feeling faint and seeing 'stars'. My friends even rushed me to hospital where they did blood tests, EPG's, put me on oxygen etc. Then I'm told their anxiety attacks which scared me even more! I always thought anxiety attacks were something people like me would never have (I am not particuarly emotional most of the time). Anyway, the doctor put me on 5mg twice a day, which is a very low dose but has been effective. When I feel another attack coming on I usually take 10mg & I'm ok...or if I have a date & think I might get nervous (hence have another attack!) I take 10mg...nothing worse then worrying you might have an attack in public! I would like to come off it, but I am now seeing a physcotherapist (which also helps!) & will wait til that treatment is over. I think I would be an absolute mess if it wasn't for Inderal.

ROGER by Christina
Hi Roger...40mg twice a day seems like a very large dose. Perhaps you could take a lower dose like I do...as I've mentioned in my post I take 5mg's twice a day and it's very effective & I've had my blood pressure checked and it seems to be ok, a little low but nothing that the doctor was worried about. If you're having anxiety attacks don't discard the Inderal...keep it there on hand because you might need it! I also suggest taking 'St Johns Wort' which you can buy anywhere that sells Vitimans...I take one tablet 3 times a day and it has really helped with my moods and the anxiety. Hope this helps you.   (Tue Jun 27 23:22 2006)

Inderal by Tom
I was just reading about inderal, I take 80 mg daily to prevent migraines, I recently went on vacation and forgot to take my pills, I expierenced severe pressure on my forehead, then later in the week severe pressure around my entire head, this pressure would intensify as the day went on until I had a "full blown" migraine. Upon arriving home after our 7 day vacation, I immediatly started taking the inderal again and the headachs have subsided, but I never new the extent of withdrawel symptoms, I thought inderal was harmless in low doses, I had now other sypmtoms other than the increadible pressure on my head. Which led to horrible migraines later in the day.    (Mon Jul 10 15:58 2006)

3 weeks ago I was diagnose by the Neurologist as having a mild form of Benign Essential Tremor.I was prescibed to take Propranolol,"when I needed it".No explanation was given what type of "drug" this was,no explanation was given concerning it's side effects. No explanation being the operative word here.It left you with the notion that this "drug" is like a asprin or paracetomol. The dosage I was prescibe was 40mg 3 times daily. Now my resting heart rate at hovers around 52-55BPM.I would like to think I am naturally fit, and would certainly like to keep that way.Took 2 tablets the first day....tremor had gone, took nothing the next day, then took one tablet daily when the need arose.2 weeks later went for a very short bike ride, felt great to get back on the bike, after 5 months.Later that evening got symptoms associated with someone suffering from angina.Chest pains, around the area of the heart, arm pains, jaw pains etc.It was clear the medication was entirely instrumental in my condition,as I have never had these type of pains in my life.Particularly around the heart and chest.First time in my life felt my health being vulnerable.Between the period of the 23/06/06 and 9/06/06 had taken 18 40mg Propranolol tablets.I went to see the GP who prescribe me 10mg twice a day.I am still suffering from these chest pains and "tightness" in the arms.I STILL CANNOT NOT BELIEVE THAT IT CAN BECOME "DANGEROUS" TO STOP TAKING THESE TABLETS.I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT A FIT HEALTHY PERSON WITH A MILD TREMOR, CAN WITHIN A SPATE OF 3 WEEKS BECOME A POTENTIAL HEART ATTACK VICTIM.(If that's not a reason for anxiety, I don't know what is?)Regardless of how well these tablets have performed for people over years. There is something infinately wrong in our reliance to prescibe "drugs" for varying conditions and for different individuals. They have so many side effects we are unsure ourselves what most of them are, this includes both the physicians and the "profit" motivated pharmaceutical companies. If someone knows how to stop taking  propranolol I would be extremely grateful.I am finding my "doctors" predisposition to prescibe only "drugs" unhealthy.Thinks it's time our doctors tell us what exactly we are taking, and what are the possible side effects.Like to add this has been my personal experience, and my personal reaction to this medication.Again I would greatly appreciate your opinions, and thank-you all for sharing your particular experiences, which have been informative.Once again thank-you.   (Fri Jul 14 11:10 2006)

80mg to much? by Daily Anxiety
Hello all.  I have daily anxiety (nausea, sweaty palms, diziness, etc) and my doc prescribed me 80 mg Inderal La once a day.  Any thoughts?  Should I take less every day?  I want to make sure I can function at work..........Thoughts?   (Sun Jul 16 15:18 2006)

Just to share my experiences w/ Inderal.
Bought it online to help before going onstage w/ the guitar.  It does help w/ nervousness.  I can also agree that it makes me sleepy 3 or 4 hours afterwards.  One very notable thing though, and after reading some of these posts, does not seem that uncommon... the dreams can become a deterrant.  Here's my very unprofessional opinion of what may be happening there.  While you sleep, the meds wear off entirely and your fight or flight sympathetic response kicks into overdrive.  The dreams themselves aren't that scary, but there is a very strong and very definite sensation of fear!  I'd wake up around 4am, terrified to go back to sleep and getting goosebumps and 'fear chills'.  This has never happened in my life before, and now only happens the day I take it.  As I said, it's nothing particularly scary, but it's purely a physiological fear state.  Messed up eh?  I see that most never get a response to their posts on this board..but, anyone have these similar experiences?  Oh, and through new clinical studies, they say St. John's wort does not work.     (Wed Jul 26 3:49 2006)

PS by casey
Anyone know if it's OK to drink with these?  I'm sure someone has to ..since they're often prescribed for social phobia conditions..and people often drink in those settings.  just wondering?    (Wed Jul 26 3:53 2006)

I know exactly what you mean about waking up in fear.  I have been up since 1 am afraid to go back to sleep.  I doze off, but wake up suddenly again.  I have been on 10mg twice a day for two weeks.  I can't seem to get a good breath in, has this ever happened to anyone else?   (Thu Jul 27 9:41 2006)

I've been taking Inderal (80mg)since 1 year for my migraine . And her it is, nightmares started . Horrible!!! It turned to sort of hallucination , seing people in the room . Could not sleep .The funiest thing that you are aware that it is only a nightmare but it does not change anything to the fact that you run out of bed with strong fear .Please is someone experiencing this ??? Severe Anxiety by Malishia
I am getting ready to start taking 20 mg of Ideral 3 x day on an as needed basis. But my doctor only prescribed me 21 pills for an entire month. Can this not be taken daily for anxiety? This condition is getting so bad for me, that I am going into fear to walk out my front door afraid of having to deal with it. I love being around other people but I have for some pathetic reason started getting EXTREMELY shaky and nervous around most everyone I know. I guess it's possible I am developing social anxiety for some idiotic reason but the reason I'm getting uncomfortable around others is because of these unexplained anxiety symptoms. In fact, the shakiness gets pretty bad before I even realize I'm obviously getting anxious. I am so frustrated right now. I think I would need this medication every day for it to work right, am I wrong? You can't just take an antidepressant whenever you want to get it to work right. I've been doing some really stupid things to try and relieve this anxiety. When I say it's bad, I mean it's bad. How well does this medication work?

Inderal by Malishia
With the dosage I'm taking, it helps with the anxiety but does nothing for my problem with a racing pulse..    (Sat Aug 19 7:40 2006)

Propranolol by Mark
Hi all, thought I'd post this in case it helps you in anyway. I used to take propranolol for blood pressure but after a while I noticed how well it helped with anxiety attacks. I stopped taking it for HBP but kept filled the remaining scripts so I'd have a stash. When I felt that one might be on the way I'd take a 10mg tablet and it would take the edge off to where the attack never show-balled into stark terror. I'm out now and after loosing it at the grocery store checkout today (first time in over a year) I'm heading back to the doctor to ask for more.    (Sun Aug 20 15:30 2006)
